Toby the Tram Engine

Toby is a steam tram engine who looks like an electric engine because of his shape and looks. This engine No. 7 is painted chocolate brown with grey side plates and has cowcatchers on either side to help him as he chugs through village tracks and works at the farm or the quarry. Toby is assisted by his faithful coaches, Henrietta and Victoria and the luggage van Elsie. Because of his box shape, he looks and feels old fashioned and is often grumpy. However, he is a very hard working engine and is always glad to work having been almost scrapped once. He has proved himself a useful engine having run Thomas the tank engine's branch line for him once and though old, he can control the trucks well. To describe Toby in a single phrase, the words from the song, Thomas & his friends, fit well, ''Toby- well let's say he is square''!
